What Is Solvang Julefest?
Julefest — Danish for “Christmas festival” — is Solvang's month-long holiday celebration drawing visitors from across California. Downtown Solvang is decorated with lights, garlands, and illuminated windmills throughout the season. A nightly artificial snowfall adds to the atmosphere, which Oprah Daily has named one of the “Most Magical Christmas Towns and Villages Across the World.”
Unlike a single-weekend event, Julefest runs for five-plus weeks — making it well-suited for a holiday day trip from Los Angeles or Santa Barbara at any point from late November through early January. The season closes with the Tree Burn, a Danish tradition in which the Christmas tree is ceremonially lit in January to mark the official end of the holiday period.

Getting There & Parking
Solvang is located on CA-246, about 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara (via US-101 north then CA-246 east) and approximately 2.5 hours from Los Angeles. From Santa Barbara, exit at Buellton and follow CA-246 east for about 5 miles into Solvang.
