Seasonal Guide

Santa Ynez Valley in Fall 2026

Fall is the best season to visit the Santa Ynez Valley — Danish Days, wine harvest, the Festival Theater, and the most comfortable weather of the year. September through November is when the valley is at its most active and most beautiful.

Fall 2026 Highlights

Sept 18–20Free festival

Danish Days 2026

Solvang's biggest annual festival since 1936. Free outdoor event with aebleskiver breakfasts, Viking Beer & Wine Garden, folk dancers in traditional costume, parades, axe throwing, and artisans marketplace. Theme: Solen over dalen (Sun over the Valley). Book Solvang hotels 3–6 months ahead — they sell out completely.

Wine Harvest Season

Crush season in the Santa Ynez Valley runs September through October. Chardonnay and Pinot Gris harvest first (September), with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Bordeaux varieties following through October. Tasting rooms are more active than any other time of year — tank samples, harvest releases, and winemakers who have been waiting all year for this moment.

Solvang Festival Theater

The outdoor amphitheater at 420 Second Street runs PCPA productions through mid-October. Fall performances are the most comfortable of the season — warm evenings, no summer fog. Check pcpa.org for the current production. October performances are often the last of the year and have the most devoted audiences.

Julefest (Coming Up)

Fall transitions into Julefest — Solvang's Danish holiday celebration with traditional decorations, mulled wine, aebleskiver, and evening lighting. The festival typically begins late November and runs through early January. A very different energy from Danish Days: quieter, more intimate, better for couples.
