Solvang Wine Festival & Harvest Events 2026

The Santa Ynez Valley runs two major wine festivals a year — a spring celebration and a fall harvest event — plus year-round winery release parties. Solvang is the best base for attending any of them.

Major Wine Events

Typically April

Santa Barbara County Vintners' Festival (Spring)

The largest wine event in Santa Barbara County. 100+ wineries pour in one location — often at Rancho Alegre Scout Camp near Santa Barbara, or periodically in the valley. General admission and VIP tiers. Tickets sell out.

Tip: Buy tickets early — sells out 4–6 weeks in advance. Designate a driver or book a hotel in Solvang and use tasting shuttles.

Typically mid-October

Santa Barbara County Harvest Celebration (Fall)

The fall counterpart to the spring festival — themed around harvest season, with barrel tastes, tank samples of freshly pressed juice, and winemakers who are in the middle of their most exciting time of year.

Tip: This is the best ticketed wine event in the valley. Wineries are more engaged during harvest than any other time — winemakers are present and actively pouring.

September 18–20, 2026

Solvang Taste of Denmark (Danish Days Adjacent)

Danish Days weekend coincides with early harvest. The Viking Beer & Wine Garden during Danish Days is a popular entry point for first-time visitors. Not a dedicated wine festival, but the timing means many winery tasting rooms are fully staffed and harvest-themed events happen throughout September.

Tip: Book hotels 3–6 months ahead for Danish Days weekend — they sell out completely.

Individual Winery Release Parties

Many Santa Ynez Valley wineries host their own release parties for wine club members and mailing list subscribers. These are often better than large festivals: smaller crowds, winemaker present, direct access to limited wines. Foxen, Brewer-Clifton, Dragonette, and Zaca Mesa all run strong programs.

Tip: Sign up for mailing lists at wineries you visit — the best events are invitation-only or sell out within hours of announcement.

No Festival? Just Walk the Town

Six or more wine tasting rooms are within easy walking distance of Solvang's Mission Drive — no festival ticket, no shuttle, no reservation needed on most weekdays. Add a 10-minute drive to Los Olivos for another dozen tasting rooms on Grand Avenue.

Wine Festival FAQs

Is there a wine festival in Solvang?
Solvang itself doesn't host a dedicated wine festival, but the Santa Ynez Valley — which Solvang sits in the heart of — has several major wine events throughout the year. The Santa Barbara County Vintners' Festival (spring) and the Harvest Celebration (fall) are the two biggest. Solvang is the most convenient base for attending either event, with tasting rooms walkable from downtown and hotels a short drive from most wineries.
When is the Santa Barbara County Vintners' Festival?
The Santa Barbara County Vintners' Association typically hosts its spring festival in April and a harvest celebration in October. Dates vary by year — check the SBCVA website (sbcountywines.com) for the 2026 schedule.
What is the best wine event in the Santa Ynez Valley?
The Harvest Celebration in October is the most celebrated — it coincides with crush season when wineries are at their most active. The spring Vintners' Festival is the other major ticketed event. Year-round, many individual wineries host release parties, club pickup events, and library tastings that are often better than the large festivals for serious wine enthusiasts.
Can I do wine tasting in Solvang without going to a festival?
Absolutely. Solvang has 6+ tasting rooms within walking distance of downtown Mission Drive, open most days without reservation. For a bigger selection, Los Olivos (10 minutes north) adds another dozen rooms on Grand Avenue. No festival needed — the valley is essentially a year-round wine destination.
